Instructional Leadership
(2021-Present)

In the summer of 2021, I transitioned to Muchin College Prep's administrative team as Dean of Instruction for our Humanities departments. In this role, I manage and coach teachers who teach Social Science and English. I also manage and coach the department chair for each of these departments. I measure success in this role by the metrics we set as a school for academics: 3.0 or higher course GPAs, 0.1 or less gap in GPA between our Latinx students and Black students, and 300 points or higher overall growth on the SAT over three years (freshman to junior year).

Through coaching and management by iteration, I support teachers in reaching these goals. In coaching conversations, I do a deep analysis on data with teachers as a stepping stone to determining the best response to student needs. For instance, if a teacher's course GPA is below a 3.0, I will ask the teacher to bring a preliminary analysis of their data. At the meeting, we will dive into the teacher's gradebook and determine the root cause for a low course GPA. Typically, low course GPAs are the result of low mastery or low completion of assignments. After determining the root causes, we co-create an action plan to address the root causes identified. I observe the teacher to see if they have followed through or will ask the teacher to collect data, and then we will repeat the process until the desired results have been achieved.
